Let It Snow

Here in South Dakota we are no strangers to cold weather, nor are we strangers to active lifestyles. The onset of cold and snow shouldn't prevent us from enjoying outdoor activities. During the winter we enjoy hunting, sledding, skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, and skating. Also for the farmers here, there is much activity just keeping the farm animals warm and fed. So it is no surprise to know there are many sprains ans strains to dislocations and other injuries.

Tips on Staying Injury Free And Maintaining An Active Lifestyle In Winter

1. Keep in shape and condition muscles before participating.

2. Make sure to warm up. Cold muscles and tendons are vulnerable to injury.

3. Check that your equipment is in good working order.

4. Wear the appropriate protective gear for the activity you are doing.

5. Dress in layers so you can shed or add to accommodate your body's changing temperature. Don't forget your feet.

6. Don't overexert yourself and know your limits.

7. Remember to drink plenty of water.
